Golf Tournament Benefits Boys Republic

Local restaurant Roscoes Famous Deli held its First Annual "Kick-off the Summer" Golf Bash, a tournament benefiting the disadvantaged students of Boys Republic. More than 135 golfers gathered May 24 at Chino Hills' Los Serranos Golf and Country Club to enjoy a round of golf and a lot of laughs.

Roscoes owners Jack Franklyn and Nick Montano, with help from General Manager Rod Forsch, their staff, and vendors, raised more than $5,000 to benefit programs in guidance and education for teenagers at Boys Republic.

"We appreciate the considerable effort it takes to organize and stage a golf tournament and we're grateful to Roscoes that they thought to name Boys Republic as a beneficiary of this event," said Max Scott, Boys Republic's Executive Director.

"We really enjoy what Boys Republic stands for and how they help those young boys," said Nick Montano. "Boys Republic does its best to get these kids ready for the real world through a wonderful program."

After a sumptuous dinner, the tournament's highlight was a colorful, hour-long charity raffle. A multitude of prizes ranged from beach cruiser bicycles to barbecues and an old-school mini bike.

"We're already planning next year's tournament, which will be held at El Prado Golf Course in May 2011," said Montano, "and, judging from this year's response, next year will only be bigger and better."

Boys Republic is one of the State's oldest and most respected youth service organizations, serving more than 28,000 troubled boys and girls since its founding in 1907. As a nonprofit, it relies upon private community support for a substantial portion of its annual budget.
