Culinary Arts Center Named in Honor of Emeritus Director Max L. ScottDec 16, 2014 -
New Student Bakery facility dedicated.
W hile a cornucopia of freshly-baked goods dazzled our senses, an enthusiastic team of student bakers looked proudly on their wares. The occasion was the dedication ceremony, held March 26, for a new Teaching Bakery and naming of the Max L. Scott Center for the Culinary Arts, a vocational training site for teenagers at Boys Republic’s main campus.
Guests included lead gift donors Mrs. Mary Lou Boone and son, Nick Boone, and nearly 150 agency volunteers, Boys Republic Board of Directors members, civic leaders and, of course, the honoree — director emeritus Max Scott.
Nutritional consultant Frank Frobisher and executive director Chris Burns provided informative remarks on the operation of the Teaching Bakery program and its role in helping young learners prepare for adult responsibility in a competitive job market.
The program concluded as guests sampled delectable cookies, cakes, muffins, breads and pastries. But it was the proud, radiant faces of a dozen bakery students that warmed our hearts.
